This is a quick mod: I bought a wire basket from Daiso (the Japanese 100-yen / dollar store) and screwed it to the underside of our dining table to make a hidden small-items holder.
The goal was to keep stuff off the dining table itself and off the kitchen counter, so an under-table basket made sense.
By the way, “nothing on the dining table except food on plates” is a household rule for us.
Keeping the dining table clear of clutter actually makes meals taste better — give it a try!
Finished Look
Here’s the result first. A Daiso wire basket hanging under the dining table.
I keep wet wipes and other small items in there.

The Daiso Basket (300 yen / about $2)
The basket I used is Daiso’s “sink-hanging basket” — a wire basket designed to hook over a kitchen sink edge. It cost 300 yen.

It’s a metal basket shaped like the photo.
The black bracket on top is normally meant to hook over a sink edge, but here I’m going to screw that part directly to the underside of the dining table instead.

Mounting the Basket to the Table
I drilled holes in the black bracket to pass the screws through.
Before drilling, I used a center punch with a hammer to make a small dimple — that helps the drill bit start cleanly without wandering.

I started with a 1.5 mm pilot hole using a power drill.
Note: I put a piece of scrap wood underneath as a backer.

1.5 mm hole done.

I’ll be using a 2 mm screw, so I want roughly a 3 mm clearance hole in the metal bracket.
I enlarged the hole with a 3 mm bit on the same drill.

Drilling left some burrs (small metal projections) around the hole, so I filed them flat.

The screws are 2 mm diameter, 20 mm long.

Underneath the table, I drilled 1.5 mm pilot holes where the screws will go.

And screwed the basket up.

Mounted.

Done!
It’s just two screws holding the basket on, so it’s a pretty quick project. If you have a wood dining table that you can drill into, this is an easy upgrade — give it a shot.
