Stop a Tissue Case from Opening at an Angle — A Quick Magnet Hack

Stop the bottom flap of a tissue case from sliding open at an angle — fix it with magnets

The Tissue Case Problem

We use a Nitori tissue case at home.
I like the look, but tilt it on an angle and the bottom slides open like in the photo.
Time for a small DIY fix.

Easiest answer would be a visible exterior latch, but that would stand out. Hiding magnets inside, on the other hand, leaves the case looking the same.

DIY: Magnet Solution

Magnets

Using these magnets (about 900 yen on Amazon — bought for an unrelated project a while back).

Adhesive

Glue them in with a strong adhesive.
I used “Gorilla Super Glue Gel”.
Gorilla glue is famously strong, and I’m using it for the first time.
It’s the gel-style super glue (like the gel cyanoacrylates), which is much easier to control than the runny kind.

Gorilla Super Glue Gel

Glue the magnets in

Glue 5 magnets to the inside of the case wall.
(I tried 3 first, but the pull wasn’t strong enough, so I bumped it to 5.)

5 magnets glued to case wall

Glue 5 matching magnets to the bottom flap.

5 magnets on the bottom flap

Done. Close the bottom flap and try it.

Tilt it — the flap stays put!

Tissue case tilted, flap still closed

Mission accomplished.
(Long-term durability of the glued magnets is TBD. If they come loose with use, I’ll try a different mounting method.)
