Our property sits next to a parking lot.
I felt a bit exposed when relaxing in the yard, so I added a privacy fence.
Calling it a “privacy fence” is generous — it’s basically just a few boards screwed up.
No concrete footings; I bolted it to the existing chain-link fence with stainless steel straps.
Before & After
Looking from our wood deck toward the parking lot — before, then after.
Before
Before. Sitting on the deck or working in the yard, the line of sight from the parking lot bothered me. So I wanted some kind of fence.

After
After. Just three boards, but the privacy difference is huge.

Building the Fence
I bought three 2-meter cedar boards at the home improvement store.
(2 m is the longest lumber I can fit in my Mini Cooper.)

Stain:
Atom Suisei Natural Color, Dark Brown (water-based natural-oil stain)

Brushed it on:

For the support posts, I skipped concrete footings entirely. Instead, I lashed posts to the existing chain-link fence with stainless steel banding (see below).
I actually installed these posts a couple of years back and left them there, so the details are a bit fuzzy — I think the wood is SPF square stock and the finish was water-based Xyladecor. The stainless steel banding to attach to the existing fence I picked up at the home improvement store.

Screw the stained boards to the support posts.
I used stainless steel coarse-thread deck screws.

Done!

I didn’t want to bother with concrete footings, so I leveraged the existing chain-link fence to support the posts.
Skipping the footings made this build dramatically easier.
